Distinguished Teacher Award

The Award
Since 2007, The Cincinnatus Association, in conjunction with the Woodward Trust, has annually presented the William Woodward / Cincinnatus Distinguished Teacher Award to one or more individuals who have demonstrated commitment, compassion and perseverance as a classroom teacher in the Cincinnati Public School system.  The award was established to honor William Woodward, a pioneer in Cincinnati education in the 1820s and the efforts and successes of The Cincinnatus Association to the furtherance of quality public education in Cincinnati.

Each winner of the William Woodward / Cincinnatus Distinguished Teacher Award also receives a cash stipend of $500 and is honored by The Cincinnatus Association at a dinner award meeting.

Eligibility
Any individual performing classroom teaching as an employee of the Cincinnati Public School system may be nominated.

Nomination

  1. Nomination may be submitted by anyone other than the nominee.
  2. Nomination may be submtted using the Woodward Award Nomination Form, or by providing the same information in written or email form, to the address indicated.
  3. Nomination must be submitted to the Secretary prior to the established deadline. 

Selection of Award Winner
The Executive Committee of Cincinnatus Association has the sole privilege and responsibility of selecting the winner.  The opinions and advice of the respective committees, panels and individual members are considered key factors in this decision.

Selection Criteria
While there are no specific or formal guidelines, the intent is to recognize an individual whose efforts and contributions as a teacher in Cincinnati have reflected a substantial personal commitment and have resulted in significant benefits to students and/or long-term improvements in the educational system in Cincinnati.  Please be sure to indicate the magnitude of any results and impacts, as well as the visibility of this individual's efforts to the public and those within the public school system.  Any exceptional contribution can be recognized, such as a significant individual event or a long-term commitment or involvement, particularly of a selfless and/or community-minded nature.
