CPS Principal Mentoring

CPS Principals, and their schools and students, have benefited from a successful collaborative of Cincinnatus Association, the Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) and Mayerson Academy.  Since early 2007, numerous CPS Principals have received one-on-one "leadership and management" mentoring from successful management professionals.

What is the principal mentoring program?
The mentors, coordinated by the Cincinnatus Association, are matched one-on-one with Principals in CPS who have requested mentors.  Mentors receive a half-day training by the Mayerson Academy, are assigned a Principal and generally meet with the Principal for 2-3 hours a couple of times a month.  The mentoring schedule and areas of emphasis are determined between the mentor and the Principal.  The mentoring sessions typically occur at the Principal's school.

What can I contribute as a mentor?
In the most recent strategic plan, the Superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools determined that Principals needed development in leadership and management.  It was determined that many Cincinnatus Association members have skills in both areas and could contribute greatly to that development of the Principals.  The mentored Principals have unanimously praised their mentors and found them to be an important sounding board.

How do I sign up?
If you are interested in participating as a mentor, or if you would like additional information, please contact Kent Friel at kpfriel@cinci.rr.com or call him at (513) 477-4174.
