Building The Citizens' Budget

Over the past decade, Cincinnati's citizens have generally been limited to two minutes of back-end testimony in shaping the City's biennial budget.  However, with huge deficits looming, the citizen voice will be essential to balancing the budget in a way our community can live with.  Consequently, a diverse coalition of civic groups is partnering with the City Administration to bring deliberative citizen input to the beginning of the 2011-2012 biennial budget debate.  <Click here to read more - look for "Building The Citizens' Budget">  [Posted 3/18/2010]

Issue 1 Resolution - Ohio Third Frontier

At the Executive Committee meeting on 3/16/2010, the Excellence in Government Panel presented a statement of support for Issue 1 - Renewal of the Third Frontier Program, an effort intended to attract new businesses and jobs into Ohio.  The panel requested that the Cincinnatus Association endorse approval of this issue, which will be on the May 4th ballot.  In this regard, the Executive Committee approved the presentation and discussion of a resolution for member vote at the meeting on 4/13/2010 for Association endorsement of the approval of Issue 1. Association Endorses Ohio Issue 1

On April 13, 2010, the Cincinnatus Association voted unanimously to support Issue One.   Previously the Government Panel and the Executive Committee voted to endorse this issue.  On May 4, Ohio voters will be asked to cast their vote on Issue 1. Issue 1 will renew the Ohio Third Frontier program, and the Cincinnatus Association hopes that all voters will vote “yes” to continue this important initiative.  The Ohio Third Frontier is designed to create good jobs and build business opportunities in our state. Already, 48,000 jobs have been created because of the program.   A “Yes” vote on Issue 1 will not raise taxes. It will simply continue a program that has already proven to be successful and provide an impressive return on investment. In fact, Issue 1 is just the thing that will help strengthen our economy.  [Posted 4/17/2010]

Building the Citizen Budget - Neighborhood Meetings

For the past several months, Citizens for Civic Renewal (CCR) has been convening the Citizen Budget Coalition to develop a way to work with the City of Cincinnati Mayor, City Council and administration to include citizen input in the policy budget for 2011-2012.  The Mayor, Council and administration agree that hearing from citizens would be useful.   The Coalition has designed a process where citizens will deliberate in small groups and suggest how the City of Cincinnati should balance a $50 million budget deficit.  To have your voice heard sign-up for one of the three neighborhood meetings and/or the all-city meeting.  Space is limited, so please RSVP today.  The Cincinnatus Government Panel has endorsed this process.  The meeting schedule is as follows:
